The launch of Pet GPS marked two major milestones for the brand: our first fully Life360-branded hardware product and our expansion into the pet category. The visual direction needed to feel undeniably Life360 while confidently entering the pet tech space—communicating safety and trust without leaning into fear. We developed elevated, expressive imagery that highlighted love, personality, and emotional connection, supported by subtle motion cues that reinforced pets as active, always on-the-move family members.
I led the packaging design from concept through final production. Partnering closely with our international packaging team, I helped develop a die-line that balanced cost efficiencies, material constraints, retail security (including theft deterrence), and a premium unboxing experience. Every decision was intentional—ensuring the device felt protected in-store while still delivering an elevated moment at home.
Surprise-and-delight moments were built directly into the unboxing journey. The first reveal happens as the side tear tab is opened, exposing hidden paw prints. The second occurs when the device is lifted from the tray—revealing the Life360 logo subtly integrated into the thumbhole, signaling there’s more to discover inside, including the collar attachment clip and charging cable.
Because the product requires a Gold-tier subscription within the Life360 app, guiding customers seamlessly through setup was critical. Through user testing across various age groups and both pet owners and non-pet owners, we determined that a clear “Scan to Get Started” QR code created the most frictionless path to activation. This language aligned with our broader device ecosystem, reinforcing consistency while ensuring customers understood they must set up an account before connecting their device.
The result was a packaging system that not only protected and merchandised the product effectively, but thoughtfully guided users from shelf to setup—strengthening trust, clarity, and brand cohesion at every touchpoint.
